While the filmmaker is a fan of the franchise, he says there’s a reason why he’s stay that way

The world’s biggest director said he will never direct its biggest movie franchise.

Steven Spielberg, renown for a four-decade directorial career including films like “Jaws,” “Jurassic Park” and “Bridge of Spies,” said “Star Wars” isn’t really his thing.

“I’m never going to make a ‘Star Wars’ film. That’s not my genre,” the Oscar-winning director told the Toronto Sun.

Although the world renowned filmmaker says he’s a fan of the “Star Wars” franchise, he said that field is more of his colleague George Lucas‘ domain.

“It’s certainly my buddy’s — the Thomas Edison of science fiction, George Lucas, who created the entire series. But that was never for me. I’m just a fan; I’m just with everybody else in the audience watching them,” Spielberg told the Sun.

The filmmaker just delivered his most recent project, “The BFG,” based of Roald Dahl’s book of the same name. The fantasy movie will be released in theaters July 1.
