Last night director of a documentary I am producing “Gay Latino Los Angeles”, asked if audiences wouldn’t mind logging onto their favorite social media channel in the movie theater. “Wouldn’t it be a more interactive experience?” My thought at that moment was, “What about the film purists in the audience? Wouldn’t they freak out?!” As we’ve become more and more used to multi-tasking our entertainment, this possibility would make it commonplace. We do it at home right? I can here my colleagues bemoan the sacrilege of polluting the sanctity of the theater. All I can say is, we’ve taken a turn onto a new world. I think my friend Jonathan was right about this interactivity. We are now doing research to find how our audience can engage social media while watching our documentary in the theater and home.
